Default Really bad hair day

The Great Crested Grebe [Podiceps cristatus] is indeed a sight — especially when it looks the camera right in the eye (or rather, in the lens). Apparently the amount of crest and neck ruff depends on whether the adult bird is in its breeding plumage.

Last weekend at Dangars Lagoon. Giving my new TCON-17 a try out.

Thanks for viewing.

Cheers

Very nice shots. That is quite a head in #1; looks like it should be on a different body. #4 is my favorite.

jjdog and banksy, thanks for looking and another thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm just learning to use my new TCON-17 and haven't worked out yet how far is too far (also depends on light of course). #4 was closer than the others.

More info on this intriguing bird can be found at: http://birdsinbackyards.net/species/Podiceps-cristatus

Cheers
