Default Sandhill Cranes gathering

I have never seen so many cranes this close to the viewing platform before. Some were as close as 100yards, which is about 4 or 5 times closer than other times. It must have been because they were flooding up this particular field for the winter waterfowl. Anyway, it was good fortune for me and the others that were observing the cranes. Enjoy.

Here is a link to the entire gallery if your are interested. Thanks for looking.

By my count there were at least several hundred cranes in the field enjoying whatever it was they were feeding on. With my 200-400 I couldn't get a wide shot of all of them.

This fellow was banded in 2003 in Alturas, CA. Modoc NWR. That's in the northeast corner of California about 200 miles north of my location here in Chico, CA.

Wow, these are fantastic, smac!!! The last one is absolutely beautiful, wow I would hang that on my wall. #7 is also nice, and 4, 6 and 8 for whimsy. You shot these from a 100 yards away? I'm sure you've posted this information before, but what is your camera and lens?
