Default Northern Visitors (Pine Grosbeaks)

This morning my crab apple tree attracted some new visitors who according to my bird book are normally only found in the northern portions (Canada and circumpolar accross Europe/Asia) of the globe but occasionally they come south during winter and luckily visited my tree.

All taken with the E-PL2 and Zuiko 70-300mm, handheld shutter priority 1/400.

They're bright and colorful but really messy eaters, half the food fell on the ground which is okay as the chickadees and the nuthatches will take the ground pickings.

in total 6-8 birds stopped by, two males (red) and a number of females (yellow/green) and I think one juvenile but I didn't get any shots of it.

here's the males

Wow great shots of very pretty birds!!! But they sure are messy eaters! #1 is very pretty, and love the wings in #2.

Very nice detail in #1 especially. Congrat's on capturing these as they are uncommon for you.
