Well done Michael, This is one of the hardest BIF for me as the contrast between the bird and sky is always difficult. These appear to have been shot in te evening by the looks of the light, is that the best time to attempt these?

Frank,
I have been going out to photograph birds late in the afternoon and often come back with good results. I think the birds are coming home to rest at this time especially seagulls. I have a couple spots on Doolittle drive between Alameda and Oakland where I like to go practice BIF shooting. During the time 4-6 pm, the lighting is even and no strong sunlight blinding my eyes. I am still not very good doing it, but I am working on it. There are a lot of experts on the forum, I am sure they can give us some pointers.

Michael,
Thoas are great also, I would give it a go, but I do not have the lenses for it. I am not quite up to waiting at a feeder, as I have no patients, and have much more to learn about photography in other venues. I am probably going to set up a small studio and do some shooting with the Hassie there. I think it would be much more productive for me right now. Perhaps if I could find a good fast lens with a little more reach (my current one is 300 mm and just doesn't seem to do well on birds), and a faster focus, I can try it. Meanwhile I can enjoy every one elses great technique and availability of subject matter, as I am enjoying yours! Thanks Michael

Thanks, Frank! Now that I am retired, there is nothing better to do than going out to take pictures. My techniques are far from being good, but I am learning from everyone here and getting a little better. I enjoy the heck out of it!
