I have bumped into a few GBHs recently. I was lucky enough to snap a few pictures of this GBH flying around noon time at Quarry Lake today.

The lens was mounted on my Canon 5D MKII and the pictures were taken hand-held without a tripod, The first still pictures was about70 ft and the second still pictures was about40 ft. The flying ones, I couldn't say how far because he took of so fast and the lens takes a couple seconds to lock in, but it wasn't that far away.
If you have an APS-C sensor DSLR, you have to use a monopod for support because your DSLR is shooting at 800mm equivalent instead of 500mm on a full frame, unless you have a pair of really steady hands. I would say the performance is probably better on the Canon 100-400mm L, I am still trying to figure out which mode of focusing is better. The above pictures were taken with mode 1.
