Default Horned Grebe Breakfast

This Horned Grebe does a good job in getting his breakfast. There is nothing better than fresh caught fish.

Nice photos, I find Grebes very hard to capture, the ones over here never seem to slow down.

Thanks, Rocky and blkms! I had tried to get a cleaned shot of any Grebes without much success. Partially because I am not used to the Bigma shooting at 500mm. I can shoot hand-held withe the Bigma on my 5D MKII but on the T3i, it is a different story. Another reason for the failed shots is because of the choppy water in San Leandro Bay when my favorite shooting ground, Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline is located. A small water fowl like a Grebe bouncing around in the water who likes to dive for fish frequently makes it a difficult subject to follow. I am still new at doing this kind of photography. I would say about six month and very seriously for the last 3 months.

However on calm water at Lake Merritt in Oakland, a large lagoon in the center of the city, my success improves. I am going back with my T3i and a tripod to give it another try in the next couple of day to photograph the roosting Double Crested Cormorants.
