This is a handsome looking Night Heron compared to the one I photographed. Mine looked like the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

This was my best shot of the Black-Crowned while vacationing several years ago with the very first Canon 10D and a Sigma 120-300 f/2.8:

This is a good shot! Love those eyes and very nice lighting. The is some color variations even within the same species. This is from my older posting from few months ago:

The Night Heron looks better in flight than just standing around. I only saw this type of Herons twice since I started taking pictures of birds. I think the Night Herons are more shy than their bigger cousins , the Great Blue Herons which can be seen more frequently in my area. Thank you for sharing these wonderful pictures! This is also a learning experience for me.
