Default Egret hopping

It is kind of fun to watch a Great Egret in motion hopping in to chase a fish.

Default More hopping action

These pictures and the above series were taken at low tide at the shoreline. The Egret behaves differently hunting in a made lagoon like Lake Merritt or the residential lagoon at Bay Farm Island where the bottom of the lake is solid. He just makes a run at the fish. On water with soft muddy bottom, he has to resort to hopping to bridge the gap between him and the fish.
