Default Clapper Rail with an antenna

I saw this Clapper Rail at 3 different occasions. I noticed that there was a wire sticking out from the back/side of it. I thought it was a fishing hook or something. Today I got a picture (Picture #1)clearly shown the wire is coming from an area where I can see the pink flesh. Since this Rail is wearing a metal tack on the left leg and the wire can be an antenna with an embedded transmitter which is used by the Wildlife Services to track it.

Nice catch. If you can enlarge the photo and read the numbers on the leg band you can send the information to the USGS bird band reporting website at

www.reportband.gov The may send you a nice certificate telling you all about the bird.

I have reported several bands that I have photographed on Ross's geese.

Maybe it's a remote controlled bird. Nice series, that is a bird I have yet to photograph.

Thanks, Steve! Getting a complete tracking number on the band is easier said than done. I look at all the pictures on this Clapper Rail and still have not able to to get a complete number.

Thanks, Scott! The Clapper Rail is supposed to be shy and elusive but I have pretty good luck in the last month being able to see the same one three times. The pictures I took this time are better than the last 2 occasions.
