Default northern flicker

This is a funny bird, it's as if god handed the pallet to a 8 year old girl who decided to use all the options; bronze and molted black stripes on the back, white with black polka dots on the bottom, rust and black around the neck, silver on the head and just not to be boring yellow on the tail and a red stripe behind the head! Truly a combination beyond reason!

Might be a little more conducive to viewing if they were a bit smaller. Say around 1024 on the long side.

Nice female yellow-shaft.

I have resized, never sure as some browsers auto-size to fit. I also am corrected that it is a female, so used to other wood peckers with the red patch being the identifier of males I just assumed red patch meant male. After looking I see that the male has a beard, as it happens I have a shot of a male too from earlier in the year.
