Here are a few shots I got prior to the raptors. They were kind enough to pose so I feel an obligation to post them. I can personally identify the red winged blackbird, but the first one here is not a blackbird. Any suggestions?

Thanks Vito, I like that one best too. Let me know if you find out what bird it is. I'm planning to do a bit of looking tomorrow in the books I have, but not tonight.

Very nice shots, Norm! The "unknown" bird is the female Redwing Blackbird. She doesn't look at all like her mate so it is quite confusing.

Thank you Clint, I thought there might be a relationship there, they sounded too much alike.

That first one is really nice. It looks like its lightened up a bit too much (the white portion on the side was probably not that bright in reality? Not that reality has much to do with what I product.....)

The last one is a difficult choice. You should probably have put more space on the right side of the bird, but that would have produced a really odd shaped picture (which I'm not sure would have worked.)

I like the exposure. Often people (including me) lighten too much to bring out detail... but the third shothas a mood because of the contrasting darker RW-black bird vs the lighter tree. Many pro's would have said to use a touch of fill flash to lighten up the bottom of that bird... and they might be right. But it would have been a different picture with a different feel then.
