Found a co-operative gold finch which let me come pretty close to him (within 5-6 feet).

The tip of approaching birds while sitting on the ground worked. I was able to take around 10 shots before he decided to fly away.

Very nice picture! I like the detail even in the feet and the beak.

Except now I have this picture in my head of you scooting around on your butt trying to sneak up on this bird. How does that work, sounds painful. If am thinking if I tried that I would have lots of bummer experiences.

But hey if you can get to within 5 feet.............

Thanks zoomn. The origianl here http://bobbyz.smugmug.com/photos/6915149-O.jpghas much more detail.

I just sat on the ground and move slowly towards the bird, moving slowly and shooting as I went further. Well I may need to look into buying some knee pads etc.

If you read Aurther Morris's "Birds as Art" book, you will find reference of him crawling through mud with his 600mm big bazooka.

Exquisite...he appears a lil chilled or stressed (or maybe just alert) as feathers are slightly ruffled.

Incredible detail
