Yeah, reversed lens. There wasn't much dof control. Just use the lcd on the back until it looked ok, get it to auto-focus, set the two second timer and then hope the wind wasn't gusting when the shutter fired. I say gusting, there wasn't even a breeze but he was moving about.
I should measure the dof I get. I'll do that tomorrow if I remember. I don't think it is any more than 2mm, and that is pushing it.

When I get the new camera having more control over stuff like this will be a necessity.

The shallow DOF is part of life in the world of macro. I think you used it well.

It's hard to believe those black dots are eyes.

I just measured my dof. Ok, it probably isn't the best way to measure it. But it was taken in circumstance and using the same methods which I normally use when I use a reversed lens. So it probably is the best way for me to test.

I tried two different lenses. One required an extra adaptor which moved the reversed lens a little further away from the cameras lens than it does when I use the other lens which doesn't require the extra adaptor. I also tried the camera in macro mode and in normal mode. All dof's where almost identical. There wasn't enough difference to really notice.

This is about the best dof I got. They're all pretty much identical to this. No editing other than a crop. Not resized but the camera was in half size mode, so I wouldn't have to resize. The marks are mm's.
