Here'sone example of results of a quick flight test with a new relatively inexpensive lens I just purchased, Tamron AF 28-75mm 2.8. I think it's a pretty fine deal for anyone who's out there looking for a lens in that range. I tested it for about 2 hours alongside a 24-70 L doing just about every test I could conjure and differences were, from my perspective, only in the area of build (Canon is metal, heavier, weather protected)and AF noise (more accurately, low whirrr). So I bought it.

A number of others on Steve'shave said some good things about this lens over the past few months, and it appears to me that they were right.:-)

aladyforty, the lens is a short wide angle to short zoom. The human eye is 50mm, just to give you some perspective.

Now, don't forget the 1.3x crop factor of Normcar's Canon 1D-MkII, which makes it a 36.4 - 97.5. So that makes it close to a "2x" zoom. Not much zoom by most standards.

In that first picture, the blacks looked a little too black to me, but that could just have been you increasing contrast. The detail is lovely, though. Very nice.
