Hi Will,

It looks like an young red-bellied woodpecker to me. I know the breast doesn't look red in your photos but colors can change during the year and also the patch is seldom visable. To quickly identify most birds, markings around the eyes can help narrow things down.

If birds really interest you I suggest you pickup a pocket copy of Audubon's Field Guide to N. American birds.

Regards,

Mark

Those are all great shots, you say youve only had the fz20 for 3 days, thats impressive, what other cameras have you used?

Im buying the fz20 in about a month and i have all but zero experiance with digital cameras or any cameras for that matter. I originally was thinking about the nikon 5700, i like it because it has raw, and a fully articulating lcd. But the fz20 is so much faster in all respects and the big 12x f2.8. Leicha lens with Image Stabilization i just cant pass up. Was wondering how much experiance you have, cuz your shots look great!
