All hand held using tamron 1.4x TC on 100-400 in good light. All shots are %100 crops from original. USM and levels adjust done in PS and then save for the web at 75%.

Some kind of sparrow

Hummingbird

These little guys have been eluding me for long time. Got 1 to pose for 3 shots in a burst sequence.

All really nice shots. The first shot could have used had more DOF, but I
like it as is because it draws you in to the staring eye. The hummer is
really good. The last two are just so cute.

BTW, was focus manual or auto?

Couldn't stop down further as I was using auto-focus mode for all and shutter speed was low at ISO400. IS of the 100-400L helped but it kept hanging up the 10D with Aperture 00 Errors.

The success of the converter shows up for me on the hummer and phoebe. The others are very well photographed (after all, it's you) but the degradation of the converter shows through more on these. This is an extremely slight degradation which is one of the most frustrating things about extenders for me personally, they are almost good enough many times, but not quite there. This one of yours certainly seems to be doing a decent job.

I think that TC works pretty well with your 100-400 Bobby. My eye isn't discriminating enough to be able to see the degradation in some of the images that Norm is seeing.

The hummer and the sparrow stand out for me. So far as I can tell, that sparrow looks to be a good match for the Golden-Crowned Sparrow - a young bird in its first winter plumage. As for the hummer... could it be an Anna's?

I'm drawing a blank on #3 - what is that?
