Here are a few more photos of Redpolls and one of Woody in a beam of light:

Love the Downy shot. I think the whole thing is eye catching (as I keep
scrolling back and forth as I write this). It's a shame #2 jumped out of
the focus range, because the stop action is great. (scrolling back down to
the Downy again). Zooming in on these little guys ain't going to give
a lot of DOF anyway. The other pics are pretty damned nice as well.
(one more look at the downy)

Yep, you caught my only serious complaint with the flyer and you seem to see what I saw in the accidental capture of light in the Woody, that tiny little glint on the beak, accidental, but I'll take it. I had about 4 of this scene to choose from but liked how the light fell on this one best. Thanks for the specifics in your commentary.

They are pretty, the light is just perfect. I like the little glint on the beak, like you said accidental, but it gives personality to the photo.

A lot of patience to take those photographs. Congratulations.

I missed this post of yours, Norm, so I'll weigh in on them late.

The redpolls are nice as usual. I even like the second one where he flew out of your DOF. In a way, I feel that the motion induced softness here adds to the sense of a bird with some urgency to his/her actions - I like it.

Of course, I love the Downy woodpecker. But you probably already knew I would since I've mentioned before that I adore woodpeckers. Still waiting for you to get some photos of Pileated Woodpeckers, though.
