Taken earlier today in my backyard, I was able to get within 6 feet or so of this little guy. With the 300mm + 1.4x he took up most of the frame! :-)

20D, 300mm + 1.4x, 1/800 @ f/7.1, ISO 400, -1/3 EC, cropped, neatimage, usm.

Now that is close.

Looks like your focus issues are behind you.

Maybe a tad too light on the bird, still a cool shot! YOu really got some detail in this one.

Thanks, guys!

Zoomn - the 300/4 with or without the 1.4x works great. My 70-200 was bad and I've sent that back to B&H for an exchange. I hope I get back a good one...

Good one Geoff! El sharpo and everything's crisp at 7.1. Eye definition in this one is very successful. I also took a peek at your levitating Jay. What have you been feeding those birds? Great catch.

Thanks, Norm! Hehe - if you look at what that Jay has in his mouth you'll notice that it is a Hazelnut (otherwise known as a filbert). There are filbert orchards all around me and the birds love those nuts. They bury them all over my yard, forget about most of them, and then I have little filbert shoots coming up in my beds! :-)
