Porking out. At the time of the photo the jay had at least 4 sunflower seeds in its mouth.

Kind of like he knows he's being photographed and is giving me a warning, "Don't come any closer."

Great shots, Suzan! Scrub Jays sure are colorful, and lucky for them that they are since otherwise you might want to chase them away as they can get quite obnoxious.

The bright bib that is on this Scrub Jay that is visible in the first photo is quite prominent, at least it seems to be much more prominent than on the Scrub Jays that are resident around where I live. In fact, I've never seen a Scrub Jay up here that had that wash of brown in the white bib. Very interesting. Here's a shot showing what I always see in Oregon (not the best picture - motion blur killed it)...
