I've seen this hawk before in the same tree when I've gone to the refuge. Today was a nice sunny day. He was about 50 to 60 feet away.

Great shot smac, very clean and the exposure is wonderful. That clear blue sky and nice crisp vertical twigs just top it off like icing on a cake. You California boys are really getting the raptors this week.

Smac, I'd say that you've nailed this one- for sure! Sharp, well-exposed, good comp...

I guess your FZ-20 does pretty well...

Very sharp, smac. I like it very much.

I saw couple of them late in the evening but too high on electricity poles. It seems they perch higher as sun goes down to keep them warm.

Thank you Geoffs, Bobbyz, Normcar,
It has it's momnets. But it doesn't have the range or consistency of the DSLR's But then again it doesn't have the price tag either. Sometime in the, not too distant, future I see a nice DSLR setup waiting for me.

All the best,
smac

Great shot smac. I'm jealous. Everybody is getting good shots of Hawks lately. I still have my first one to get. If I ever do I'll probably fumble and mess it up.

Nice shot, good comp. You caught that piercing gaze in the eyes of the
hawk. I know what you mean Houston! Yesterday, I finally got a good chance
of getting a shot of one. As it was a weird day for lighting, I went to change
exposure mode to ensure I got the shot, and for the first time ever since I have
owned my Rebel, the damned thing locked up! By the time I dropped
the battery and restarted, he was gone. Maybe I'm just not supposed to photo hawks.
