These are some that I've been saving fora day like today when I was too late getting home from work to get any new ones. Hope you enjoy them as much as I've enjoyed taking them. All taken with the Drebel & 135-400. The first one is the only one taken without using flash.

Very nice photos Houston; the dove in the second photo is excellent in my view as the flash isn't so pronounced and seems to be used more as a fill flash. Excellent definition in the cardinal. It would have been great if it was up on a limb with a less busy background. It seems that you are getting more control with that flash in some of these which is super.

Thanks Normcar. I think these were taken beforeyour suggestion on a diffuser. Haven't got that thing yet. But I will. And I'm trying to get some good ones of the M and F cardinals in the trees or bushes. Just haven't worked out my technique of getting close to them yet. I have lots of them in my yard but they are really spooky. I'm getting there though.

Thanks Woodmeister. Sure wish I had the time to take more. I work at the MCLB in Albany and I worked 65 hrs last week and this week will be about the same. The OT will get me that 100-400L though.

Cheers

The 100-400 is a good lens, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Watch out for quality controll issues... test is soon after getting it to make sure you want to keep it. A bit too many are duds.

Norm, I had the same though. That second Dove is really well done. You wouldn't know a flash was used yet when you know there was it makes sense. Filled the shadows very nicely but wasn't harsh. Nicely done Huston.

The 2nd dove shots looks quite similar to what zoomn posted a couple of days ago. For the cardinal shot, I would try shooting from a bit lower to the ground.
