Shot yesterday evening as I could sneak out of work for some time.

Extremely pretty catch bobby, and how these photos cause me to miss my little avocets. The eye's catch light, tiny but effective, and the general leaning pose are really very attractive. This one doesn't have the tan coloration which probably has something to do with mating times. This bird can look great without the tan, as you demonstrate effectively here.

PS - looks a touch wet down there :-)

very nice bobby

the pose in the first is too great!

i like the lifted leg, open mouth, and lean! very nice!

i'm guessing this is a different 'plumage' than the ones norm posted a couple months ago..less red...

gorgeous shots bobby!

you get these with your 100-400?

Great avocet shots! I really like these.

Give this one another few months, Norm, and it will look just like the avocets you were photographing up your direction last summer. This is just the non-breeding plumage as you had thought.

Pretty shots of a bird I'll probably never see without taking a major road trip.
BTW, where was the shot taken? Curious about the environment.

Woodmeister, I think that Avocets can be located during the breeding season on the eastern shores, probably New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. So, I don't think your road trip needs to be all that major...
