My choice to post two of thesethree photos had alot to do with the wintery background look that seems to enhance the bird from time to time. All with EF 400/5.6 wide open at about 400 ISO with approximately a 1/500 shutter handheld.

REDPOLL

SISKIN

Thanks Pierre, I'm enjoying the lens, yes,I appreciate you asking. I was worried about not getting a good sharp version but this one seems to be passing the test and like most lenses it seems to work better the more it is used. I think that getting used to a new lens is half the battle.

Marvellous pics Norm, the first depicts winter to a "T", crisp and cool. The little fella seems to be looking far in the distance [hoping to see a glimpse of Spring, maybe?]

I really like the first one. The branch really adds to the photo.

The second one is a winner the color and detail on the bird are very well done. And how nice of him to give you a great pose!

My favorites are the first two. I like the first one for the wintry scene showing the patch of snow in the fork of the branch above his head and the second one for, well its just a nice picture of a very pretty bird.

Cheers
