These "courtship" feathers don't last very long, so this guy, early for Brooklyn is "looking."

In picture one, he had just shaken himself off, preliminary to taking off, and getting away from a non-perspective mate - i.e. - me

wow...great pictures! We have a lot of those guys down here in Florida - was wondering why some had the "feathers" and others did not. Thanks for the info!

Those feathers almost cost the species their existance. At the end of the 19th century they were hunted almost to extinction because those feathers were worth good money as ornaments for clothing...

Fortunatly, the feather trade for these birds was outlawed just in the nick of time.

These are great Dave. You've really done a superb job capturing the detail as you have here in a white bird. That is no easy feat for me.
