Been out of shooting for a while. Got a chance to try some shots at the local egret rookery. All taken hand held.

Nest building was in full force.

Got some great egret shots. Didn't know the yellow thing around the eye can be green also.

REally nice shots.

Hope to get a chance to shoot an egret some day. Thanks for sharing these great photos. My favorite is the third from the bottom.

Super shots bobby, I just asked in my last post to you when you were going to post next, then I saw these. You have been working hard and these are wonderful additions. You must have been sharpening your lens point :-) I like those mating feathers on the Egret and my favorite overall is probably #2 because of the unorthodox point-of-view along with the eyeball accent.

Thanks everyone.

Pierre - I was using 100-400L IS on my 10D for all these shots.

I met another person using same setup when I was taking these pictures. Of course there were 3-4 other guys with 500 & 600mm big guns. This place is right next to the parking lot so even 200mm would do.

Wow bobbyz, great photos! The eyes in #2 & #3are mezmerizing, and the in flight pics are beautifully exposed. Very good work. You gotta love it! Woody

A question...does the male have a different color between the bill and eyes? Very fine detail in the white. Pro caliber for sure. Woody

You have two different kinds of Egrets in these pictures. Snowy's and Great Egrets, not to mention the Black Capped Night Herons....

A Breeding Great Egret has the green that you mention while a breeding Snowy grows additional feathers on the top of the head. With the Heron, a breeding adult has those little plumes you see coming off the top of his head.

Good pictures, you took more than you knew :-)
