I guess its safe to say that spring is in the air, along with a whole bunch of queen fire ants.

That's a fantastic shot. Fire ants are some of the more aggressive ants.

However, the winged ants are not queens, however, they are female. The queen female is wingless.

Thanks folks for your comments and glad you enjoyed the picture. I'll go through the rest I took and see if there are any other good ones to post.

Woodmeister the camera I used here is a Panasonic Lumix FZ20.

Hmm, I'm not quite shure, but these actually could be queens, because here in Latvia, winged females after emerging, flies away, and when the female has found place where to make a nest, she bites her wings off, adn therefor becomes a queen ant.
Of course I could be wrong. :-) Nice shot by the way, glad that I'm using FZ20 also. :-)
