I had such a hard time capturing this guy against a bright background:





... that I decided to try some variation:





and got lucky with this one flying across the shadow of trees:

Some nice captures here NHL. Really like the in flight shot. I just wish I was
coordinated enough to get in flight shots. As for the redwing, I know what
you mean. If you expose to get detail in the bird, you blowout the background,
if you expose to get some background, you lose detail in the bird.

I normally have the camera set on manual for theses shots because I never know what kind of backgrounds the birds will be flying against - Also the flight does look gracious in full motion, but when frozen by the camera, they tend to look strange sometime:

The Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 EX HSM - Note theses images are scaled by PBase, they are sharper when you click on 'original': http://www.pbase.com/nhl/sigma

... Considering all theses were shot with a 2x teleconverter
