Here are a few shots gathered today that show the flying abilities of the Osprey. I have never yet been lucky enough to get the bird diving for a fish but I did get a few dives at other birds here as well as a few more with the mate:

On the nest

Showing off (soft, and shutter was too slow, but I thought it was post-worthy)

Heading Home

Norm, Houston here. I'm at my daughter's house in Winter Park Florida and I've been watching yours and most of the other guys posts as well almost every night. Your Osprey showing off here and also the one with the fish earlier are terrific and so is the Woodpecker on the job. I'm always amazed at your ability to capture things that seem so impossible to me. After seeing your Osprey here I wanted to let you know that my daughter had spotted an Osprey sitting in its nest with the little ones bobbing there heads up and down and she took me to it today. I took a few shots of it but the lady would not leave the nest. I also got some of a red headed woodpecker yesterday but nothing to match yours with the wood chips flying. So far I have lots of stills that I think are fairly good and a few flight shots of a GBH, Snowy Egret and Great Egret that I'll post when I get back home.

Houston

Thanks Houston, good to hear that you are getting some shooting done. Regarding that Osprey, you should return to the nest and wait for a bit because sure enough the mate will be along with a fish or some branches for the nest. With a bit of patience you may find yourself with some great Osprey shots.

Fantastic Pics, Norm, as usual. It looks like he was practicing both dive bombing and putting on the brakes.

Thanks for looking Jim and Mullen.

Jim, these were shot with the Canon 400/5.6.

Mullen, that day the bird was doing just about everything you say :-)
