I've seen these guys flitting about for a few weeks now, but they didn't stop
anywhere. I tried chasing them in flight, yeah right! But today, it seems
that they found something that they liked, and gave me a chance to get some
photos of them.

Truly amazing and beautiful photos woodmeister. The colours and clarity of the butterfly and flowers are really superb. Great captures.

I like all these.

I like them in the order posted with 3 being the class of the bunch to my eye.

The color and saturation are excellent as is the detail.

What an awesome looking butterfly and your photos really show it.

Really nice!!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I really appreciate it. It took a while to
get that last shot. It was a fair amount of time before one finally openned up
on the side of the bush that I was on.

I really enjoy good shots of insects and these are good. I'm especially impressed that you took these without the aid of a dedicated macro. One question, how fr away were you from the butterfly when you took the shot?

Joe, that's the nice thing about the canon 100-400mm zoom. it has a minimum focus of 5.9 feet and 1:5 "macro" ratio. it's not too bad with 1.4X TC, either.

I don't think it gets any better than this. This are the quality for bragging rights. I've chased a fair number of insects from bloom to bloom in my time and I know results like these are seldom. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your comment. As for your question, somewhere in the neighborhood
of 6 to 8 feet away.

Thanks a lot!!! Mother nature needs some credit to for providing the scene
and the right conditions. All I had to do was do things right.
