I am lucky to have a very large farm behind my rear property line. The field is planted with grass and is the perfect habitat for Savannah Sparrows. Here's two shots just taken in the last few days.

Canon 20D, 300mm f/4 with 1.4x TC, 1/320 @ f/8 and ISO 200:

Hi Julie - it's great to hear from you! I happen to like Savannah Sparrows also. Among the LBBs (Little Brown Birds :-) ) they are one of my favorites. That yellow stripe above their eyes is very attractive...

I think my favorite is the white throated sparrow (of LBB's)

Nicely done on these guys. I think I prefer their fall colors better, more contrast and the yellow stands out more.

Really nice shots here geoffs. The simple green background is lovely. Don't think I've got one of the Savannah Sparrow's yet but I'm sure I will some day.

Thanks, all!

Eric, I like WT Sparrows too. And WC Sparrows, and... :-) Although I use the term LBBs, I don't consider them such!

Houston, just think grassland when you think of Savannah sparrows - go there and you will sooner or later find them. The ones behind my house are nesting in the farm field planted with a grass crop (Oregon is the largest producer of grass seed in the country, and perhaps the world - not good if you have allergies, believe me!). I hate the fact they are nesting in that field because whenever the farmer sprays or when they harvest I fear for these guys and their nests...
