I had spent the past several days camped out in the woods with some friends.
There were a lots of birds around, but they weren't real cooperative as they
were pretty much staying high up in the trees. However, I did manage to get
some photos of some critters while hiking around.

All shots 20D and 100-400L

First, came across this racoon.
ISO 800, 180mm, f/5.6, 1/100sec

This guy happened to be standing in the trail when we came around the bend.
ISO 400, 365mm, f/7.1, 1/400sec

Then, got these pics of the proverbial "snake in the grass".
ISO 400, 400mm, f/7.1, 1/2000sec

ISO 400, 400mm, f/7.1, 1/1600sec

Finally, got this photo of a turtle and his friend. I was originally centered
on photographing the turtle, and didn't notice the frog on the right until
I got home and looked at the shot.
ISO 400, 375mm, f/6.3, 1/640sec

I love the expression on the snake in the first snake shot.

Nice Critter shots Woodmeister. I believe you had a real good time camping out and getting all these photos. Very well done. I like that first pose of the snake also. He's looking straight at you.

Nice shots wm, looks like a fun hike. too bad you didn't see more birds, though. I know how frustrating it can be to hear them all around but they are way up on some tree, out of reasonable shooting distance.

I like the snake expression too.

Thanks for checking out the photos and your comments Norm and Houston.
Frustrating is right. There was a herd of waxwings that came into the
campsite every morning and every evening, but they stayed high in the
trees. Oh well, they were still fun to watch.

Like the snake LOOKING at you, woody - putit onyourdesktop, could keep unwanted hands off

Nice thing about hiking/camping is that there are all sorts of shots one can take, right from insects to mountains

Nice variation here, thanks for sharing it with us
