It was a cloudy day...

The first two images were shot at 1/60, ISO 500, but I was able to lean on my monopode. They are actually different birds.

These last three images were shot at 1/40, at a completely different location. I was forced to handhold the camera because the bird was above me. These are not cropped, although some have been trimmed a bit. So while subtle, the images suffer from camera shake.

Very nice shots Dave. Incredibly sharp for such a slow shutter speed. I don't believe we have those birds here. I imagine many folks are suprised of the wildlife that take up residence around cities. Woody

This year the Black Cap's are all over the place. There were 5 pair in the area of the first pictures.

There are always Egrets, the Blue Herons don't show up until after the chicks are independant.

And numerous others. In fact more wild birds than anywhere else I've ever been, and I've been around!

These are undeveloped parks I shoot in, along the coast. There is no human development.

The other area is an abandoned coast guard base, and that's where I came upon this Heron perched in a tree, I assume looking for baby bunnies...

Tommorow, I'm supposed to get some good light. I ordered it and payed for it, and the weather people have promised me good shooting weather.

If I had good light, in those last pictures you would have been able to count the eye lashes, I was only twenty feet away. Normally my posts say things like "ten miles," "4000 yards," in this case, just twenty feet away.

Nice ones, Dave, I like 4 best for the way you have composed and cropped.

Thanks!

What kind of Herons do you guys have? While there is certainly NO absolute rule, it's often better early in the morning, followed by late in the day.

If it's by the sea, an hour or two before low tide...

But then again, these birds don't read my rules...
