The three Cardinals were taken late this afternoon in my very shaded backyard so I used flash. All were handheld and the lens on manual focus.

20D, 100-400L, 1.4x tc, and 420EX flash.


1. ISO-400, 1/250th, F5.6, Shutter Priority - Resized and FM

Houston, great shots. the flash really makes the birds standout. the pose on the egret is really nice!!!

Great work, Houston, that Egret shot is excellent. I sure love the look of those birds and when photographed well, as you have here, they really impress me.

Nice job, Houston. The 20D really responds well in these shots. As DJB says, the flash is very effective, but not obtrusive here.

wonderful shots, they ARE very young, the flash seems to have done the job on these ones, they are exellent.:-)

I also love the look of the Egrets Norm. Sometimes I get a good photo and sometimes not. But I do enjoy trying. Thanks for the nice words.
