Here are some shots of an avocet landing taken last night. I decided to put the burst into one series as these birds are so graceful it intrigues me:

400/5.6L on Mark II body

And a few more

Hmm, awkward? I'd need to work on that one :G I could personally never perceive these beautiful birds as being remotely awkward, so it's a difficult call for me on that one.

It is quite amazing their agility with such long legs. You should see how fast they can rush about on the shoreline and even in the water. Unfortunately, one needs a video camera to capture that sort of thing. Thanks, Julie :-)

Hi Kent, thanks for the comment. Settings were: shutter 1/1600, F/5.6, iso400 at 400mm plus 1.3x crop of my camera, which is 520mm. Focus was spot expanded to 7 points.

Really nice shots of a beautiful bird!!!

But you know what Alady40 comments reminds me of. Looking at a major league baseball pitcher in a still photo, do they not look awkward? The smooth grace and power of throwing a ball, is frozen into a pose, so that you wonder how he even gets rid of the ball.

Thanks dennis, I'm glad I found this place, the domain of the avocet.
