Taken last evening at a local park. Wish I could get a lower angle.

All with 10D and 400mm f5.6 on tripod. Wish I had taken the 100-400L as heron got too close to me and I couldn't move without spooking him.

Ahem! You are complaining about these shots? Bad Karma, bad Karma! Bad Bobby Z, Bad Bobby Z - No buscuit...

Not for nothing (as we say in Brooklyn, the country of my birth) but these are some remarkable photo's totally ruined by complaining about the angle!!!

Bobby, these are wonderful shots of a Green Heron. You did great and you're complaining?

I was contemplating the 400 f5.6 lens myself. How do you find it for flight shots?

Yeah, that got to me. These are among the best shots of these birds I've ever seen - he's complaining?

I agree with NHL, that 4th shot is really great.

It's it wonderful when you get close to a Green Heron? I just love those little guys.

Thanks everyone.

geoffs, 400mm prime is very nice for flight shots. Much better than my 100-400L. You can use it wide open at f5.6. Even though weight wise it is not much different from 100-400L but somehow you feel it is much lighter. The built in hood is great. And you can use 1.4xTC to get 560mm. I have got used to carrying a tripod so don't miss IS that much.
