This is the first year that I've seen Merlins in Brooklyn. I now suspect that one or two pairs may actually spend the summer here...

These first two shots show the distint Falcon silouette, so different from other types of Hawks.

These two shots were of a diferent bird. I saw her make a pass at a Flicker and then think better of it. The Flicker is far to large for a Merlin

And these last three shots were taken about a month ago.

The Merlin, is with the exception of the Sparrow Hawk (American Kestral), the smallest Falcon in North Ameria, being only 13 inches long with a 20 inch wing span. They "shriek" like a respectable Hawk, but it comes out as a musical cry.

The first shots were taken with a Nikon D2x, Swarovski telescope with 1100mm adapter. the last three shots were with the same camera, 800mm adapter.
