It's getting real hard to find interesting birds now that there is snow in the mountains but I found these two woodpeckers today. It was real overcast and dark in the forest so I used a flash - which I still haven't figured out how to use.

Beautiful little birds! I've never heard of a Three-toed Woodpecker. That's one reason I love these forums... I get to see so many different birdsthat we don't have in our area.

Here's another shot of the female. She was making her way up from the base of the tree where there was no snow. I was lucky to get in a quick shot when she cleared the snow.

Very nice shooting, Jim, I've only photographed this bird once, in the Blairmore area a few years ago. Lovely to see it again.
