I saw some macros by Normcar that I liked so I tried a close crop.

On the second I can see the detail in the white belly. Would you say the highlights are blown?

Congratualtions for such wonderful posts. I like both of them but #1 most. What lens did you use?

Thank you for the reply Jaki. I use a Nikon 300mm f4 with a 1.4x converter.

Hi Ron, Congratulations on these two. Wonderfully done, especially #1. The detail in it is super. You mentioned if the highlights in #2 were blown. To me, I think the white may be just a tad blown but thats only because I shoot a lot of egrets and sometimes I get on down to -1.3on the exposure on the all white birds. That gets me a dark background that can be lightened up in ps. But I know that can't be done on multicolored birds such as the Goldfinches so what can I say....Btw what was your exposure comp on that one if any.
