Actually, not lucky at all. These guys have been congregating in a new spot for me. There's not much cover, and they hang out a hundred or more yards from the beach. This raft of them has grown from fifty to more like fifteen hundred - But my shots are crops from this hundred yard distance.

I normally send the dog to play up the beach, so he wont frighten them off - big mistake. This time I went through the whole routine and then because he was a half mile away called at the top of my lungs - the birds were frightened, but then they saw the dog running at top speed along the breaking surf. A large tendril of ducks broke from the raft and swam over to see the sight - And finally I got pictures from a hundred feet - not a hundred yards.

The first image is of a chunk of the raft from my normal hundred plus yards - and a crop of an image from about 75 yards - mostly sleeping. The rest are 50 percent frames, of Ducks ATTRACTED to the dog - go figure?

The interactions in a raft of ducks would best be captured with a video camera. These are facinating ducks. I've never seen them in Summer - They breed in Northern Canada on the larger lakes and Hudsons Bay.
