A couple more from the weekend and today.

dennis

1. Sparrow. Not sure what kind of sparrow. Appears to be a juvenile song sparrow but the chest pattern seems to be different than shown in Sibley's and Peterson's and National Geographic guides. This little birdie is so cute.

Very nice all around.

I believe it is a song sparrow. It can be tricky from the right angles to tell them and tree sparrows apart (when you can't see the distinctive spotin the middle of the breast) But this facal pattern looks more like a song than a tree to me.

Very nice flight shot of the gull. Flight shots are very rewarding to me... a lot more has to go right to get them, and you nailed it.

Isn't that red eye great on the coot!

Thanx, all!!! Eric, thanx for the ID of the sparrow. I'm wondering if it is an immature. As for flight shots, they are very rewarding to me when it is sharp with detail. This was a bit more difficult because the background is trees and, as you know, the 20D can be tricked and focus on the background. I guess i got lucky and kept the center focus spot on him all the way. The red eyes on the coots are really neat. Also, have you ever seen a coot's feet?? they are really different. I never knew they were also called water chickens, or something like that. Well, again, thanx all for the nice comments.
