Usually these guys fly before I can get close enough for a decent shot. The fishing was just too good for him to go too far.

Thank you for your comments. The photo was taken at Ross Lake, which is in wilderness area and National Park. It is in the extreme northwest corner of Washington State. The mountains go straight up to about 7,000 feet from the lake. I think that the lake is around 2,000 ft. in elevation. First growth timber borders the entire lake.

You are right that they spook easily. Here is my take on a Blue Heron. Had to enhance it for I didn't compensate enough for shooting into the sun.
