Three of these shots are full frame, so if you want to know how far off these were shot from, merely multiply the apparent distance by 22...:-)

The Greater Scaups don't normally fly away when they see me, but it was high tide, and instead of 50 yards of beach, I emerged from the gully that that access the beach, and was right on top of them - so off they went.

After their innitial reaction, they calmed down and landed. Making for a spectacular display of water flying everywhere.

Another, smaller raft, a bit closer then took off. These are however all cropped images

Later, I had Chato run up and down the beach. With every other duck this would drive them away, with the Greater Scaup, they get curious, and I got some really good close-up shots.
