Wow! such clarity. You must be right on these guys. My favorite are the downy and brown headed nuthatch. The exposure, color and framing are perfect. #1 is good but there's something about it ...hmmmm, maybe the crop or angle of the bird??

Very sharp & detailed shots. But main problem I see is that you got too many branches in the background. Try to get them with clearer bg. Also opening up your aperture might help.

Woody, no flash just natural light.

Buzzsaw, I use a Nikon D-70s with a Nikon 300mm f4 and a 1.4x converter.

Bobbyz. Thanks for the comment but fill me in about the branches. Trees and birds go together and trees have branches. Do you think they are distracting? I kinda feel like ole Forrest when he said they go together like peas and carrots. :-)
