I first spotted these guys a half mile away. The first shot below is full frame. Thankfully, they slowly got closer and closer. I simply immitated a Baboon, minding his own businss...

Even so, they never got Too close. Bad Winter for Loon shots...

Very good shots Dave. I've never been able to get close to these. They always seems just too far out of reach. Well done!......thekman.

The thing about these guys, is that they are very sharp on spotting movement. The thing to do is to move when they are diving - then move like hell to get closer, freezing before they come up. You have 20 seconds with diving ducks and maybe 40 seconds with loons and Grebes.

Look for vertical things on the shore that you can stand behind or next too - Then FREEZE - camera, already pointing. Think of yourself as a rotting pier...
