In this first image this mated pair of Black Ducks was looking to build a nest in my favorite marsh. I sent the dog to chase them away. The reason being that Ducklings and this marsh do not mix. They probably would have figured it out without my help, but once the eggs are laid, they are stuck there - and too many people and too many dogs visit this place.

It's a great place for a Duck to visit, but a lousy place to call home.

I once saw a foolish Mallard lose 11 chicks in this marsh, so I'm now playing good guy/bad guy. It was too painful to watch her lose those chicks one by one to dogs and Gulls.

The next three images are of Brandts geese, taken on three different days, in three locations. The last was Very windy, and really rough seas, which these guys couldn't care less about.

Not a great picture of this Canada Goose, but those white spots are not dust on my camera. He's starting to molt.

Caught this mated pair of Red Breasted Mergansers flying overhead. They're starting to leave for the North.

This Marsh is an attractive place for all kinds of birds. But too many people come and run their dogs. I rarely meet them, because I'm there at dawn, but on hot summer days, there are always quite a few.

So the dogs chase the ducks out of the cover, and then the Gulls snatch the chicks.

Aside from Song Birds, only Rails breed in this marsh. And that's because the Rails can run on the thick mud and couldn't care less about the dogs.

There's a reason why these dogs are not popular...:?:

He's a Kuvasz, a very strange breed indeed. When I was a kid I used to train dogs for a living. Even so, I was unprepared for this breed. Instead of training him, I have a buisness arrangement. People who don't socialise a Kuvasz properly are now equiped with a homicidal, but good natured maniac...:?

Chato, IS socialised properly, but he trained himself. The deal is, He behaves and he goes out shooting. No behave, and he stays home.

He got the idea, and thinks of things to please me.

Or the other way to look at our relationship is that HE has spent six years trying to train ME, and is so far very unsatisfied with his progress...

In all honesty, I've gotten more pleasure from him than any other dog I've known, but also more grief...

The best way too think of him is as a huge Cat
