I'm a glutton for punishment.

Let us know what bird it is...

Hi - with that red eye and black head on this small bird, I'd have to say it's a Black-Capped Vireo. Lives in the Southern plain states, and "Winters in Mexico", so he could be coming home, round-about-way.

Nice catch of his red eye,

G'day there,

ok I did a bit of a search through that link.....60 odd pages later and I think I found it. Sylvia Melanocephala is the name. If that isn't it then...umm...good luck finding it. Was the only bird I could see that matched the colours. If you do a google search with that name it should bring up the shots of the bird.

Anyway nice shot of the bird, nicely captured.

A Sardinian Warbler (Sylvia melanocephala) it is! Thanks so much for the info. I was able to Google Sylvia melanocephala and saw many photos of my bird. It's a female. Normally found around Greece, Turkey, and, in this case,on Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands. I came across it in a ravine one day, bit it was too far away for a decent picture. I came back the next day and, sure enough, it was in the same place, but this time, my patience paid off and I was able to take a closer shot. Once I get a longer zoomed lens fro my Nikon D50 (image stabilized) I'll be able to bring them in closer.

With thanks to all for your help... Dan

Woops! Check that. It's not a female, it's a male. Further research indicates the male can be grey to brown (depending on time of year). The female does not have the dark (black) head. Dan
