I was actually looking for some of these and, WOW!!!, actually found some!!! go figure! 20D and 500mm & 1.4TC habd held.

Looks like you have snakes up to the elbows. Those are mighty black water snakes!

Most of the ones I see are more brownish with some yellow.

I do believe these are Black Racers, not really water snakes, although they don't mind taking a dip. This time of the year, they really appreciate warming up in the sun...

Dave, black racers are a possibility but, today, there were 5 of them all swimming around all morning long. I don't think racers do that. I know northern water snakes get darker as they get older almost to the point of not being able to se their markings. But, you still may be right.

Dave, black racers are only smooth scaled. These snakes are keel scaled so are not racers.
