My cousins were nice enough to take me up to their house in Maine on Great East Lake. Unfortunately the weather was rainy and windy but, we decided to get out on the 9 mile long lake and look for loons. These hae to be one of the most beautiful birds in the northeast (my opinion)!!! Considering the conditions I think they cme out okay. Can't wait to go up there again with sunshine and calm water. all taken from the boat with 20D & 100-400mm @400mm & f/5.6

4. A lone male that seemed to want to tease us by emerging about 50 yards from us. as soon as we got within it's "safety"zone it would dive and pop up again waiting for us to chase him. the weather was a bit better but still rainy. iso400 1/250

5. Lastly a pair of loons. the female is in front and she is carryinga baby loon on her back. It's under the slight hump at her tail. Never saw the babe as it was probably only a couple days old or, should I say, new!! iso400 1/160

Wow!! Shots 2, 3 and 4 came out excellent. The lighting actually worked very well for these shots.
