Wow. Talk about colourful. Must be a variation of our Wood Ducks or vice versa. Nice shots.....Don.

As far as I remember, the shot is a mandarin duck. The following is a photo of the wood duck whose head is said to be like the snake's.

yes it is a mandarin duck. we have some here in the states in captivity. yes they are of the same family, and actualy I thinkg they are the only two types in that paticular family. the females are not as bright, but look almost just like the female wood duck. still my favorite duck of all time. Thanks for the great shot

Yes they're both, Tree Ducks or Perching Ducks. And the Wood and Mandarin are amongst the most beautiful of all birds. There are however other Tree Ducks, although none are near as colorful as these two.
