That's a nice shot of a Red-tail. You might try playing with the cropping to try and emphasize the bird a little more. It's an interesting pose and I think with a little re-working it could really showcase the hawk.

Maybe something like this. Hope you don't mind.

The crop looks much better.



I am fairly new to taking wildlife photos. I was under the impression the rule of thirds applied. I missed the obverse again, most subject are centered. Thanks for pointing out the obverse.

Your welcome Jeff,
Remember, all of the rules, the rule of thirds included, are more like guidlines. It's all about the eye of the photographer. Go with what you feel conveys the feeling or tone you are trying to capture. There was nothing wrong with your original shot. My take was that I thought you could crop out some of the right side and it would bring more focus to the hawk. That was my intent. Yours could have been some different. No less valid, just different. I think you are off to a good start. I look forward to seeing more.
